Alpine Retreat

From ancient monks to digital nomads, retreating to the mountains has long been a way to disconnect and recharge.

Here in Bellingham, we live in the lush rain shadow of the North Cascades; we often journey to their glaciers and high meadows.

Mountain cabins provide a refuge from the stress of modern life.

Cabins are a place to relax; enjoy time with family and friends, explore the outdoors, and savor the daily rhythms of a simple life. You’ll find yourself inspired and refreshed.

Now that the majority of humans live in cities and we spend more time indoors than ever before, going to the mountains can feel like going to a different world.

Sometimes that sense of separation is just what you need! Cabins are a place to take a break from the endless scrolling and notifications. Nestle into a cozy nook and catch up with your loved ones without screens in the way. Or enjoy the Japanese practice of shinrin-yoku, forest bathing, which means simply taking a quiet walk in the woods using all five senses to experience nature.

Down here in the everyday world, you have so many things calling for your attention. Bit by bit, your obligations can chip away at you. Drained of inspiration, it’s easy to lose focus. Simply going to the mountains for the fun of it is actually a powerful way to revitalize yourself. Nan Shepherd realized this in the Cairngorm Mountains of Scotland: “Yet often the mountain gives itself most completely when I have no destination, when I reach nowhere in particular, but have gone out merely to be with the mountain as one visits a friend with no intention but to be with him.”

Being in an inspirational space does more for your sense of purpose than a month’s worth of Zoom meetings. Time well spent in the alpine centers you, grounds you. Above the rest of the world, you gain perspective on what really matters.

We feel the mountains’ presence strongly in our daily weaving practice. We hope you find similar inspiration for your endeavors.
